When the newly inaugurated President Vanderholm makes it his first priority to appoint a new supervisor to the prosecutor’s office, Jake Jaconovich and his office mates are immediately suspicious. Within days they discover that their new supervisor is one of the most notorious professional assassins in the country.
Jake is immediately plunged into a new case of corruption that he is certain must lead directly to his former classmate, President Vanderholm. Jake manages to juggle the needs of his young family and aging parents as he works to curb the Vanderholms and bring rule of law to his country.
His work is hampered by the new constitution, which still creates a class of citizens who do not have rights, access to education, property ownership and employment sufficient to provide a livable wage. Poverty, starvation and crime plague the embattled country.
When a coalition of southern leaders files a suit to overturn the constitution, Jake faces the possibility of getting a new constitution that will include rights for everyone, or if he fails, he must take his family and flee the country.
Watch as Jake and his office mates work together with Professor Ingleman and “his merry band of scholars” to build a new nation based on civil liberties, equality and justice for all.

What kind of man kills his fellow man for money? I still can’t answer that question. Perhaps, if I’d had my mind on my job instead of my new baby girl, I would have learned the answer. Then again, maybe this is not a question an honest man can answer.
After my office mates returned from the inauguration ceremonies, I decided to stay home with Leah and the children for two days. With a new baby in the house and Shirley’s five children, I thought the women needed some extra help.
Actually Jacob consumed the whale’s share of my energy. If I turned my back, he climbed into bed with Leah and Elizabeth to show the baby a toy or a book or tell her the names of all his body parts. He loved holding Elizabeth. We took her with us wherever we went or Jacob would be in her room showing her his toys and trying to hold her.
When Leah and Shirley insisted that Elizabeth simply had to sleep, Jacob would lie down on the bed beside her and wait for her to wake up or, even better, sometimes he fell asleep himself.
Elizabeth accepted the brotherly attention with wide-eyed calm. I expected her to cry when he plopped a teddy bear or a toy train on top of her, but she looked at her brother and his offerings with pleasant complacency.
Shirley did an excellent job of teaching Jacob how to behave around his sister. She taught him how to hold the baby and how to be gentle and that babies need their blankets to keep warm.
Leah congratulated herself repeatedly for her success in hiring Shirley. I agreed that I appreciated our help. It seemed to be taking the combined efforts of three adults to manage my household.
